Interview with Crionics

So, how are things going?

Hail! Last days we have some free time to have a rest after our Polish tour we've played in October with Vader, Lost Soul and Ceti. In a few days we're starting rehearsals before our European tour that we're playing on February.

A lot of our readers still haven't heard about you guys. Care to enlighten them?

We found the band in 1997, but I'm the only one from the first line-up. The keyboardist is Vac-v and the drummer is Darkside. Session - concert musicians are Yanuary (guitar, also Thy Disease and Anal Stench) and on last tour helped us Destroyer (bass, also Moloch and Kriegsmachine). Our music evaluated from not-speed, melodic metal we've played in the beginning into fast black/death metal music. If want to know more information visit our website at http://www.crionics.prv.pl or check http://www.empire-records.com.pl

Why have you chosen to name your band Crionics?

It's simple - we liked the name and started to use it about 1998, but now, we find it suitable to our music and lyrics,

and to us as individuals. It's taken from Slayer's song, of course.

There seem to be a lot of confusion about exactly when the "Human
Errors"-record was released. On your website it says 2002, on Candlelight
it says 2003 and we did not get this album before last month. And I have
seen reviews of it claiming it to be a new release. Could you please clear
this up for us?

2002 was release date in Poland, some foreign distributors put it into market in 2003, and finally, Candlelight Records that is our label since decline of 2003 released it on 25th of March 2004.

You have just released your second album in Poland, while the rest of us
have to wait another two months or so before we can enjoy it. Will this
album continue in the same style as Human Error?

"Armageddon's Evolution" will came out in the end of 2004, because some people have just got our first album so it needs some time. Second material is also in death-black style, but it's faster and more "blackmetal" than "Human Error". We produced it in a different way, guitars are less powerful, hidden, but keyboards play more than on our debut, they are better arranged and vocals are better heard and really devilish. We're very satisfied with this album, and curious of opinions.

As always, promotional copies don't include the lyrics, so could you
please tell me about them? Is there any special theme? And is the title
related to the concept of the album?

If we're talking about "Human Error..." lyrics were written by different people-me, our friend and our previous drummer during a long period, between 1998 and 2002, so there is no concept. There is no connection between them and the title, either.

Your music seem quite influenced by well-known bands, such as Dimmu
Borgir, and, especially on the song "Episode Of The Falling Star" there
are riffs that could have been on any Emperor record. Where do you take
your inspirations from?

Our inspirations come from different things, many aspects of life and music we used to listen before. We try to avoid inspirations from music directly, not to copy anyone, but when you're in one kind of music all the time, you can't create something that was already done before - I mean some characteristic arrangements, structures of songs. Originality isn't most important to us, but we endeavor not to play like bands we like very much. Emperor and Dimmu Borgir are some of our favorites, especially the first one, but our music seems to be similar to their because of using keyboards, artificial harmonics, and minor or triton harmonies. By the way, opening riff from "Episode of the Falling Star" is very old, and was written before I heard Emperor by the first time.

There are quite a lot of band performing the same kind of melodic black
metal as you do? What do you feel about the world's metal scene in general?

In the world I think there are many bands playing this kind of melodic, black-death metal music. We don't care and play it in our way. I'm not in metal music for a long time, and listen to new bands and records very rarely.

Poland seems to have a few up and coming bands these days, and Behemoth
has done it really well. How do you feel the Polish extreme metal scene is
today?

Yes, Behemoth is very strong now, their latest album "Demigod" is pure extreme metal! This band will play a lot of gigs and tours in the end of 2004 and in 2005, so they're gonna kick some ass.
Polish metal scene is great, a lot of good bands, but economical conditions don't allow to exist them like bands from Europe. You should check polish websites looking for our groups.

On the website, you announced that bassist and co-founder of Crionics,
Marcotic, had to leave because he cut his hair. Explain please?

This was the final fact that caused he had to leave. Besides he wasn't interested in metal music for a long time and didn't work on himself, so we didn't need him in the band. Now, Crionics are War-A.N., Vac-v and Darkside and it's enough. When playing concerts we're helped by Yanuary (guitar) and Destroyer (bass).

So, what are the plans for the future? Rumours have it that you are
planning an EU-tour.

We're going with Dies Irae, Decapitated and Hate through Europe in February 2005, the tour is prepared by Empire Records and Crash Music. I don't know any details except there are about 20 concerts planned.

Well. That was all we had for today. If you have any final words, out with
them.

Worship Devil! See you on the tour!
