Biography
Angra, named after the Brazilian natives God of Fire, is a Brazilian power metal band with a style that can be compared with Rhapsody, only quite not so symphonic, without the fantasy based lyrics, and about a thousand times more varied, the style shifting from brazilian rythms to power metal to progressive metal.Angra was formed in 1991 and it then consisted of Andre Matos: vocals, piano and keyboards; Rafael Bittencourt: guitars; Kiki Loureiro: guitars; Luis Mariutti: bass guitar and Ricardo Confessori: Drums and Percussion until Matos, Confessori and Mariutti left the band a few years ago. Since then nothing has been heard from the band until 2001 when Angra became reborn with new members and the glorious news of a new album release fall the same year. The new Angra is vocalist Eduardo Falaschi, drummer Aquiles Priester and bassist Felipe Andreoli in addition to Bittencourt and Loureiro. They released the album Rebirth, which proved quite clearly that the band could do very well without André Matos, although it did not top Angras previous albums. Spring 2002 they released a B-side album titled Hunters and Prey, which contained two previously unreleased tracks from the Holy Land area, two entierly new tracks, two accustic versions from Rebirth and two cover tracks. Here they almost are at the height of early Angra, everything just amazing. Next to Blind Guardian, Angras performance was the best among the bands at W:O:A Part XIII |
